Project Application procedure

2025 APPLICATION ROUND IS CLOSED

As of February 8, 2025, the call for applications (proposals) 2025 has been closed. We thank all the organisations for their applications. Further communication will be via e-mail.

Seeking Innovative Project Proposals

At the Albert Schweitzer Fund, we believe that innovation is key to solving some of the most pressing healthcare challenges across Africa. By “innovative,” we mean solutions that go beyond traditional methods. These embrace creativity, technology, or new approaches to make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and effective for communities in need.

We encourage projects that think outside the box and tackle healthcare issues in novel ways. For example projects that apply

  • Innovative technologies like clean cooking stoves, 3D Printing for producing affordable prosthetics or a novel reusable vacuum pump for safe deliveries;
  • Mobile Health Solutions to bring healthcare to people in remote areas, like an app to support village healthworkers or motorbike ambulances for pregnant women;
  • Traditional knowledge in a new way like producing ceramic jars for waterharvesting, collaboration between traditional bonesetters and medical doctors;
  • Creative ways to support mental and sexual health like the use of a dance as a way to create a supportive environment where stigmas can be broken, or a place for to practice yoga an receive support for women who have experienced sex based violence.

We are looking for ideas like these—projects that introduce new technologies, cultural approaches, or creative solutions to healthcare challenges. Whether through the use of apps, advanced medical devices, or community-driven programs, we want to support innovative approaches that have the potential to make a lasting impact on healthcare in Africa.

If you have a project that brings fresh ideas and transformative solutions, we encourage you to submit a proposal.
