Marvyn Koning is a physician with a background in Internal Medicine | International Health and currently works at institutions including the Leiden University Medical Center and the KIT Royal Tropical Institute. He focuses on global healthcare and international health issues, with a special interest in projects within global health. In addition, he holds board positions at several nonprofits, demonstrating his strong commitment to social impact.
But perhaps most valuable for ASF: as a former participant of the Albert Schweitzer Prize and now a student at the KIT Institute, Marvyn stands at the very heart of the community we aim to support—global health professionals. He understands the hopes, challenges, and ambitions of this generation, as well as the transition the global health community as a whole is undergoing.
That is why we are excited about Marvyn stepping into the role of advisor, ensuring that the Albert Schweitzer Prize grows along with its community: shaping selection criteria, advising on outreach, and helping us speak the language of the next generation. His insights will guide the ASF in staying attuned to how we can best support emerging health innovators.
Working Group International Albert Schweitzer Prize
Around Marvyn’s advisory role, a small working group of (international) students will be formed under his leadership. The purpose of this group is to better align with our target audience: young talents interested in the ASP. By actively responding to their wishes, needs, and ideas, we aim to further strengthen the recruitment of strong candidates and inspiring projects.
With Marvyn, we are taking an important step toward making the Albert Schweitzer Prize even more international, accessible, and relevant for young professionals worldwide.

Marvyn Koning is arts met een achtergrond in Internal Medicine | International Health en is werkzaam bij onder andere het Leiden University Medical Center en het KIT Royal Tropical Institute. Hij richt zich op mondiale gezondheidszorg en internationale gezondheidsvraagstukken, met speciale interesse in projecten binnen global health. Daarnaast bekleedt hij bestuursfuncties bij verschillende non-profitorganisaties, wat zijn sterke betrokkenheid bij sociale impact laat zien.
Maar misschien wel het meest waardevol voor ASF: als voormalig deelnemer aan de Albert Schweitzer Prijs en nu student aan het KIT Institute, staat Marvyn midden in de gemeenschap die wij willen ondersteunen—global health professionals. Hij begrijpt de dromen, uitdagingen en ambities van deze generatie, evenals de transitie die de mondiale gezondheidscommunity als geheel doormaakt.
Daarom zijn we enthousiast dat Marvyn de rol van adviseur op zich neemt, om te waarborgen dat de Albert Schweitzer Prijs meegroeit met haar community: het vormgeven van selectiecriteria, adviseren over outreach, en helpen om de taal van de nieuwe generatie te spreken. Zijn inzichten zullen de ASF helpen om afgestemd te blijven op hoe we op de beste manier jonge zorginnovators kunnen ondersteunen.

Rondom de adviesrol van Marvyn wordt een kleine werkgroep gevormd van (internationale) studenten, onder zijn leiding. Deze werkgroep heeft als doel om beter aan te sluiten bij onze doelgroep: jonge talenten die interesse hebben in de ASP. Door actief in te spelen op hun wensen, behoeften en ideeën, willen we het werven van sterke kandidaten en inspirerende projecten verder versterken.
Met Marvyn zetten we een belangrijke stap richting een Albert Schweitzer Prijs die nog internationaler, toegankelijker en relevanter wordt voor jonge professionals wereldwijd.
