Sports for Mental Strength Among Vulnerable Teens – Uganda
Dinsdag 14 april 2026Through this project, vulnerable teenagers with refugee backgrounds in Kampala receive mental health support. By combining sports activities with psychosocial counseling and a digital environment, a safe space is created where young people can express themselves and
connect with others. Local mentors and young people are trained to provide mental health support. Participants work on building self-confidence, social skills, and resilience. In this way, the project helps young people better cope with stress, trauma, and social isolation.

Teenage refugees in urban areas often struggle with stress, trauma, and social isolation. This project provides a safe space where sports, group activities, and guidance come together. Young people develop social skills and mental resilience while gaining access to accessible psychosocial support within their own community.
Objective
Creating a safe space where sports and mental health support come together, training young people and mentors in basic psychological skills, and improving resilience and coping skills among teenagers. In addition, efforts are being made to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

Health pioneer Muhammad Kyeyune
Muhammad Kyeyune is an experienced development worker and human rights activist with over sixteen years of experience. He focuses on mental health, youth, and vulnerable groups. With his background in social work, he leads projects that empower young people and support communities. He is committed to inclusive and practical solutions that make mental health services accessible to young people in difficult circumstances.
