Timasukilane – Let’s talk – Malawi
Dinsdag 10 februari 2026This project provides school-going adolescents in Mangochi, Malawi, with a safe place to talk about mental health, relationships, gender-based violence, and sexual and reproductive health. Together with young people, safe spaces are set up in schools where they can share their experiences in small groups
and translate them into plays and short videos. Through drama, storytelling, and social media, the conversation is further disseminated within schools and communities.
In this way, the project contributes to greater openness, resilience, and well-being among young people.

Project
In Mangochi, there is a lack of safe spaces for young people to talk about mental health, relationships, and violence. This project creates school-based safe spaces where adolescents discuss topics in small groups and translate them into theater and videos. This stimulates dialogue and strengthens social support.
Goal
Developing a sustainable school program in which young people learn to talk about sensitive topics such as mental health and sexual and reproductive rights in a safe setting. Participation, creativity, and peer-to-peer dialogue strengthen well-being and reduce school dropout rates and teenage pregnancies.
Results
- A safe space for 400 young people at 20 schools
- At least 16 trained facilitators, who can offer a safe space to another 2,000 young people
- Young people create plays and short videos about their lives
- Increased openness about mental health and relationships
